Carn Brea Leisure Centre
Sunday 12th October 2003
Torbay Judo Club enjoyed a hugely successful day out
at the BJC Cornish Open Competition on Sunday. A team
of seven club members entered the contest at Carn Brea
Leisure Centre, and came away with six medals between
them. Mike Kateb achieved two of these, both gold medals,
one for first place in the senior men's under 95 kg
category and the second in an open contest for the
senior male kyu grades. In the junior section, Vicky
Corbishley gained a gold medal after a convincing victory
in the girls under 55 kg, and Ben Corbishley won silver
in the Under 30s. Sam Vincent won silver in the male
Over 60 kg category, after a very close fight against
the gold medal winner, and Naomi Vincent won her first
gold medal in the girls under 50 kg category. Alex
Edge and Jordan Luker found themselves in much larger
groups in their weight categories, and although they
both fought well, neither made it through to a medal
position this time. All team players were a credit
to their club and their families.
